Santos said she wrote Cape Air on March 14 requesting the airline management to consider resuming its service to Rota.
In her letter, she told Cape Air regional administrator Capt. Geoff Price that the resumption of service to Rota will enhance passenger service and meet growing demands especially for the upcoming military buildup on Guam.
“As we may know, there is only one passenger airline providing service to Rota whose flight schedule is unable to meet the demands of passenger service into the island,” she said in her letter.
Santos, Ind.-Rota, said Price immediately responded to her request and told her Cape Air intends to resume its service.
“We are expecting to have both airplanes operational by our projected Rota start date of June 30,” Price told Santos in an email.
Santos said Cape Air suspended its passenger air service to Rota last year in order to perform aircraft maintenance.
She added that when Cape Air suspended the service it also made the assurance that it would resume its air service to Rota in April 2011.
According to the lawmaker, the regular flight service of Cape Air is very important for Rota especially when it hosts important events like its annual fiesta.
