The Japan Club of Guam is appealing to the community to help the people in the affected regions during this time of great need.
Yoneyama Toyohito, president of the Japan Club of Guam, said: “We ask our island community members for monetary donation to help disaster victims rebuild their lives and their communities.”
Donations can be made by cash or personal checks (payable to Japan Club of Guam) at the Japan Club of Guam office located on the 2nd floor of the ITC building between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Personal checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 7962 Tamuning, Guam.
Toyohito stressed that it would be difficult and expensive to ship donations overseas from Guam to Japan and that monetary donations are more efficient. The monetary donations also offer greater flexibility for disaster relief organizations to purchase needed resources locally and for immediate distribution within the disaster area.
All donations will be handled by the consulate general of Japan in Hagåtña and will be delivered via proper channels to assist and support the earthquake victims in Japan.

The Republican lawmakers have also joined the efforts to help Japan. According to a news release from the minority leader, Sen. Frank Blas, Jr., he and fellow Republican lawmakers Tony Ada, Chris Duenas, Dr. Sam Mabini, Mana Silva Taijeron and Dr. Aline Yamashita are reaching out to the public in providing help to the victims.
Blas has sent letters to the private/non-profit sector to join in the relief effort.
Monetary contributions can be dropped off at Blas’ office on the 9th floor of the DNA building in Hagåtña and the Ayuda Foundation. Make checks out to “Ayuda Foundation Japan Tsunami Relief.” Details on fundraisers will be announced later by Blas’ office this week.
Non-perishable foods can be dropped 24 hours a day/7 days a week at the Pac-Air Air Cargo Facility at the Antonio B. Won Pat Guam International facilities just past the northern entrance to the Tiyan access road.
Blas has also asked Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Underwood, University of Guam President Dr. Robert Underwood and Guam Community College President Mary Okada to encourage their staff, teachers and students in collecting non-perishable goods.
He has also asked the student bodies to join the lawmakers in conducting cultural and music events to raise money in collaboration with the Guam Hotel Restaurant Association. For more information, residents can call the senator’s office at 671-472-2534.
