First Saipan photographers’ meet spurs interest among pros, amateurs

Group organizer Marie Sayson said  she came up with the idea last month, but they had to iron out some details before the meeting was finalized.

About 15 professionals, amateurs and aspiring photographers showed up for the meeting and spent the afternoon taking photos of three local models.

“The main purpose of gathering this group who share a common interest and passion in photography is so we can all learn from each other, and have fun at the same time,” Sayson said.

As of yesterday, the group already had 46 members.

Sayson said the group also aims to bridge the gap between photographers because “some may be too intimidated to work with each other.”

The group also opened a page on Facebook where members can upload any photos and anybody can comment or give suggestions on it.

The Facebook page also gives members the opportunity to ask questions about cameras, lenses and other related equipment and get answers from other members.

“This is a wonderful way to learn about photography because we can interact with others who share the same interest with us,” one member said.

Some aspiring photographers who showed up for the meeting did not take any photos but were there just to observe and meet the other photographers.

“Everybody had a good time, and we’re definitely going to do another one soon,” Sayson said.

They will soon announce when the next gathering will be, and invite others who also have a passion for photography.
