The two-month-old boy, Nicholas Angel Johnson, was the only child of Army servicewoman Madeleine Taisacan Johnson of Rota. The baby passed away when he was taken off life support on Feb. 19 at the Colorado Spring Memorial Hospital.
Madeleine Johnson’s mother Connie Taisacan told Variety yesterday it was a very painful decision for her daughter and her husband to make but the baby had suffered severe head trauma.
Taisacan said her grandchild’s remains will arrive on island first and the parents will follow on the next day.
The boy will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi on March 8.
Taisacan said she did not have all the details regarding the infant’s death. All she could tell was that the suspect, identified as George Peters, is also a soldier.
Her daughter and husband entrusted Peters and his wife to look after their son.
Peters, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder.
It was determined that the infant died of head trauma and the coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.
