According to the organizer, local registration deadline is only until March 11— no exemptions.
Taga Inc., the organizer of the event, is looking forward to welcoming more than 60 participants from Korea, and 15 coming from Saipan to date.
Last year’s champions Sam Gardner of the United Kingdom and Renata Bucher of Switzerland earlier confirmed their participation to XTERRA Saipan.
Gardner and Bucher will be coming to defend their crowns fresh from their participation to the inaugural XTERRA Philippines held in Cebu.
Meanwhile, local bet Mieko Carey, buoyed by her victory in the Tour de Guahan last month, will be one of the major contenders.
Meanwhile, the schedule of registration fees is as follows: XTERRA Championship, $150; XTERRA Championship team, $200; XTERRA Saipan Sport, $75; XTERRA Saipan Sport Team, $125; XTERRA University Saipan, $100; XTERRA Saipan Sunset Trail Run, $25.00; XTERRA- Tagaman Double Individual, $270.
Participants must be 15 years on March 12.
Transition will open at 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning to place gears and bicycles for the race. Athletes check-in and numbering will take place at the finish line starting at 5:00 a.m.
Participants must have identification to take bike/gear out of the transition area and must show their body marked number or run number or give it to a friend or family member to claim bikes for them if the participant is unavailable to pick it up themselves.
The 2011 XTERRA Championship is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and all participants must either be current license holders or purchase a one-day license which will cost $10.
Participants will not be given the participant packet without showing a current USA TRI license and picture ID or purchasing a one day license at registration.
The results will be posted on the notice board in the finish area as soon as they are available. Results will be posted on the XTERRA Planet website on race night. Personal results can be picked up at the finish line.
The organizer would like to remind the participants and supporters to wear plenty of sunscreen. “Hydration is not optional. Take plenty of fluids on the race course. Do not skimp because it is better to stop and take a drink than to suffer from dehydration and a trip to Saipan’s Commonwealth Health Center,” the organizer stated in its press release.
The Pacific Islands Club will be the host headquarters for the 2011 XTERRA Saipan and Tagaman Championship competitions.
