Another establishment eyes CUC’s used oil

In addition to Saipan Grand Hotel and Sunshine Laundry, CUC Executive Director Abe Utu Malae said GPPC has also expressed interest in CUC’s used oil.

But he said the decrease in their used oil is principally attributed to CUC’s incineration effort.

Malae said they have 11,200 gallons of used oil left in tanks 120 and 107.

There were 30 drums of used oil inside the secondary containment for incineration, he said.

They originally had 227 drums of used oil inside the secondary containment, he added.

He said the sludge from tank 104 and waste oil from Rota were already incinerated and some were used by customers for their energy recovery program.

About four to five drums of waste oil and water came from Power Plant 4, he said.

That oil will be gone within two weeks, he said.

CUC has not replaced yet the purifiers of all of its engines, but it will acquire new equipment that will blend the used oil with the fuel so it can fuel engines, Malae said.

After the cleanup of tanks 108 and 110 along with tank 104, he added, CUC will ensure that it can use at least two tanks for oil storage.

Malae said they are also pursuing the rehabilitation of the oil pipeline.

After this project, he added, “the most important effort is the cleanup of the soil or remediation.”

CUC’s prime concern is the oil pipeline that transfers diesel oil from the Mobil terminal to the power plants in Lower Base, he said.
