JC Café postpones showtime

JC Café manager Lot G. Bunao said they felt it was inappropriate to celebrate and laugh when the world is grieving.

“Some of our neighbors, including some of the contestants and board of judges for the show have direct links to Japan and we felt that we have to allow some more time to pass before we can hold the contest,” Bunao said.

The Show Time Challenge for March, which carries the theme “Laugh out Loud,” has been rescheduled for next Saturday, March 19.

The show is designed for people who can crack jokes, tell funny stories, do stunts and other stuff to make other people laugh.

JC Café hosted its first pre-Valentines Showtime Magpasikat (Be Famous) Challenge on Feb. 11. Because of the success of the first show, Bunao said  they wanted to make the event a regular one every month, until the final showtime slated for July 9, 2011.

At stake for the three monthly winners are $100, $75 and $50.

The next Showtime Challenges are set for April 9, May 7, June 4 and the grand finals will be held on July 9. Prizes for the grand finals are $250 $100 and $50 for the top three placers.

Aside from helping discover and cultivate the talents of the island residents in their talents in singing, dancing, sketching and drawing, and other skills, Bunao said events such as this could provide diversion for the people and help bring in more visitors to spur the economy.
