Neighborhood Watch seeks legislative support

Ramon B. Camacho, Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chairman and prime mover of the task force, said they are seeking financial assistance from the Legislature.

Speaker Eli D. Cabrera, R-Saipan, told Camacho that he will discuss the task force’s request with the other lawmakers.

The task force needs $25,000 to implement various projects on Saipan, Camacho said.

Frances Muna, municipal council administrative officer, said the task force aims to install permanent signs displaying information about the task force in all the villages.

This is part of an information campaign that will urge community members to join the task force, she said.

The task force, meanwhile, continues to solicit empty drums for its cleanup drive.

Muna said they have already collected 20 drums from Shell Marianas and 10 from Commonwealth Utilities Corp. while other companies have donated paint.

The task force is planning to solicit empty drums from other business firms and civic organizations, she added.

Muna said the Boy Scouts of America have joined the task force in its information campaign in the villages.
