“These are Ace Hardware gift certificates. This way, Val Welch can utilize the money for equipment the students need for their projects,” Ada-Hocog told Variety in an interview.
Welch teaches aquaculture science and self-reliance at San Vicente and is the project manager for its science center.
Ada-Hocog said Project Familia is a strong child obesity advocate and supports programs that promote good health among children.
“This is why we are donating to San Vicente because their center is growing fresh produce. These produce are grown by the students themselves and this is what Project Familia is all about — teaching parents and children how to grow their own food and to eat healthy,” Ada-Hocog added.
Welch said students are also maintaining a greenhouse, a small garden and raising tilapia.
