Letter to the Editor: To the people of the NMI

What is the problem?

The problem is that every time the federal government prevents new drilling for oil it sends the price of oil shooting up. This time we are now over $3 a gallon for gas, and predictions are that the price may go as high as 5-7 dollars. In 2007 President Bush issued an order to take away the ban on drilling and the price dropped like a rock from 4-4.50 a gallon to under $ a gallon.

Please remember that during the Florida oil spill President Obama — against all advice —put a ban on off shore drilling. As this lost oil shortage works its way to the gas pump the price is going to escalate out of sight. That is the bad news.

The good news is that he is reported to have now “seen the light” and ordered the ban lifted. If so — the price increase will go up and hopefully back down soon.

Hang in there and God bless you CNMI.
