Villanueva outran Watanabe and Ken and Rose Phillips to top the winners’ bracket. Watanabe defeated Ben Castro while Rose Phillips sent Brenda Rideb and Fred Ngirmekur to the losers’ bracket.
Ken Phillips routed Castro, but fell to Ngirmekur along the way. Watanabe eliminated both Rideb and Ngirmekur before losing to Rose.
Rose Phillips kept close in her rematch with Villanueva. She lost the game after pocketing the 8-ball and cue ball on the same shot.
Watanabe celebrated his birthday last Thursday with a party and half the pot. All players faced off in the 9-ball challenge, with first and second place prizes going to participants with the most wins.
Watanabe and Kapileo tied for first after winning one game apiece in their head-to-head match.
Annie Tesiro and John Mongami were a game back, followed by Konrad Reyes, Nizer Masayos, Ken Phillips, Ron Chisato and Glenn Rios.
Thursday and Sunday tournaments are scheduled to start at 8 p.m., with sign-up and practice starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Thursday 9-ball contest is played in round robin format. Sunday tournaments consist of double-elimination 8-ball.
