(SBDC) — With the 2025 CNMI Industry Day right around the corner, the CNMI Small Business Development Center Network, hosted by Northern Marianas College, is reminding all participating businesses to come equipped with three critical tools that will help them stand out and connect with incoming federal and military contractors:
But First — Create Your SAM.gov Account
Before you can secure any of the essential requirements below, businesses must first register at SAM.gov. This is the official system used by the U.S. government for vendor registration and contract opportunities. Once your SAM.gov account is active, you’ll be able to apply for the following:
1) UEI Number (Unique Entity Identifier)
Issued through your SAM.gov account, the UEI is your official ID in the federal procurement system. It verifies your business for government contracting and is required to be considered for any federal bid.
2) CAGE Code (Commercial and Government Entity)
After completing your SAM.gov registration, your business will be assigned a CAGE Code. This code is used by the Department of Defense and other federal agencies to identify contractors and is mandatory for participating in defense-related projects.
3) Capabilities Statement
This is your business’s snapshot for potential contracting partners—a concise, one-page document that outlines your services, experience, qualifications, and differentiators. Contractors will often request this as part of the vetting process, so having a strong, well-prepared version is crucial.
Why These Matter
Federal and military contractors attending Industry Day are actively seeking qualified local partners for current and upcoming Department of Defense projects across the Marianas. Having your UEI, CAGE Code, and Capabilities Statement ready signals that your business is prepared, eligible, and serious about doing business with the federal government.
