THE deadline to submit artworks for Variety’s Draw Your Teacher contest is Sunday, Sept. 28, and the company is calling on all students in first through third grades to participate.

The contest is Variety’s way of honoring educators on World Teachers’ Day, an international day held every year on Oct. 5.

“We’re asking students to show how much you appreciate your teacher,” said Variety Sales and Marketing Supervisor Hazel Sadian.

In past contests, students drew their teachers in class, showing “why they are the best.”

The winning artworks will be published in Variety’s Teachers’ Day special issue on Oct. 3.

The contest is open to students in both public and private schools. Variety will award one winner from each grade level, judging entries based on the following criteria: interpretation of the theme, originality and artistic quality, visual elements, and overall impression.

Gift packages will be given to the winning students as well as to the teachers they honored in their drawings.

To submit electronically, students should scan their artworks and email them to contests@mvariety.com/.

Submissions must include the student’s name, grade level, teacher’s name and school.

Schools have been notified of the competition, and students may also submit their work to school administrative staff. Variety will collect the drawings in time for judging.

“Marianas Variety can’t wait to see the amazing work that comes in as part of the Draw Your Teacher contest,” Sadian said. “It’s always so fun and touching to see how talented our islands’ students are and how much they appreciate the teachers who make such an impact in their lives. We have great prizes that both the teachers and students are sure to enjoy, so please get your submissions in before the deadline.”
