YOUNG Gunz Marianas Motorcycle Club became the 15th participant in the Mayor’s Office of Saipan’s Adopt-a-Place program on September 18, when they beautified the five concrete picnic tables south of the 13 Fishermen Monument.

The motorcycle club is responsible for the fresh coat of paint on the picnic tables and has taken on the responsibility of site upkeep every two weeks as part of their participation in the program.

Club Vice President Cat Dela Cruz said it is their pleasure to adopt the location.

“We love to ride, but part of our mission is to give back to the community and create a safe space where riders can park and enjoy themselves,” she said.

Saipan Mayor RB Camacho said the Adopt-a-Place program “brings the community together” and also helps deter crime and drugs.

He added that through public-private partnerships, the island can take care of itself.

“The government builds recreational facilities, but they cannot manage them,” he said. “I looked at the issue, sat down, and realized there are resources out there. We have the resources in the community — which is the community — to take ownership and help the mayor and government promote safe communities, safe villages, and a clean island.”
