SSHS Manta Ray cadets assist in Veterans Day ceremony

On November 11, Veterans Day honors the brave men and women who have served and are still serving in our country’s military.

This year’s ceremony was held at American Memorial Park on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. 25 Cadets, along with their Senior Army Instructor, CSM (Ret.) Richard Basa from Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Battalion arrived at around 8:30 a.m. to help prepare for the event, setting up chairs and distributing programs and water bottles to guests.

Before the ceremony began, the Manta Ray Battalion Color Guard presented the colors and later retired them at the end of the event. C/CPT Socorro, Jonah, served as the right guard, C/LTC Saluta, Jolash, carried the U.S. flag, C/CPT Joaquin, Johncel, held the CNMI flag, and C/CPT Federizo, Eithan, was the left guard.

C/MAJ Baculod, Miyiel, and C/CPT Beltran, Sherlyn joined Gov. David M. Apatang, U.S. Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds, Saipan Mayor Ramon B. Camacho, veterans, and community members in laying the wreath.

As the wreath was laid, a 21-gun salute was fired and the tap was played.

The Manta Ray Battalion cadets were glad that they had the opportunity to assist the community while also honoring our past and present veterans and their families on their special day.
