NOAA ship to survey coral reefs in Marianas starting April 15

STARTING April 15, 2025, a 231-foot white research vessel from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may be seen offshore.

NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette will carry scientists and crew around the Mariana Archipelago. They will scuba dive to record information on corals, fish, and changing ocean conditions.

These surveys are non-invasive, and do not involve taking any marine life. The information collected will be shared and used to improve scientists’ and resource managers’ understanding of the islands’ coral reefs. You may see this ship offshore during the months of April – June.
