JOSEPH Phillip Kapileo Jr. was arrested on allegations that he punched his partner.
Kapileo, 44, appeared before Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho in the custody of the Department of Corrections for a bail hearing on Monday.
He was charged with assault, assault and battery, disturbing the peace and domestic violence.
Judge Camacho imposed a $15,000 cash bail on Kapileo and remanded him to Corrections after the hearing. He was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on April 4 at 10 a.m. and for an arraignment on April 14 at 9 a.m.
According to the complaint against Kapileo, police responded to a call on March 28 at around 6:23 p.m. and met a woman with red marks on the right side of her face near her right eye, as well as a small dark bump on her right eyelid.
She told the police that Kapileo had punched her back and her face.
The woman said Kapileo picked her up from work that day. She said Kapileo was driving, and she noticed that he had been drinking as she had seen beer cans inside the car.
She told Kapileo that she knew that he was seeing someone else. She said they began yelling at each other.
When they arrived at Kapileo’s family farm, he parked and got out of the car. When she got down from the passenger side, she said Kapileo started walking toward her. She said Kapileo pushed her three times toward the vehicle. When she turned her back from Kapileo, she said she felt three punches.
Kapileo, she said, also punched the right side of her face. She told police that when she crawled toward the driver’s side of the vehicle, Kapileo began pulling her hair and forced her out of the vehicle. When she was out of the vehicle, Kapileo pushed her head to the ground, she said.
On the ground, she said, she began apologizing to Kapileo, telling him “It’s my fault,” so that he would stop hitting her.
When Kapileo let go of her hair, she said she got up and walked to the driver’s side of the vehicle and told him she wanted to go home.
While driving, Kapileo told her that she had a black eye, then took a beer can and rubbed it on her eye, she said. When she kept crying, Kapileo told her to stop and said, “Do you want me to hurt you again? You want me to punch your face again?” She said she was so scared so she kept apologizing to him.
When they arrived at her place, she said Kapileo told her to park below the residence so her family would not “see their problems.” After walking up to her family’s residence, she said her children and family members asked what happened and then told her to call the police.
After completing their assessment of the victim, medical responders wanted to transport her to the hospital, but she refused.
