THE Tinian Republican Party has scheduled a primary election for April 11, for the mayoral seat that will be vacated this year.
Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan has reached the two-term limit, leaving the mayoral seat open for this year’s general election.
Tinian Republican Party Chairman Ramon M. Dela Cruz said in an interview that the time and venue for the primary election will be announced at a later date.
Rep. Patrick H. San Nicolas and former Rep. Antonio SN Borja are both vying for the Tinian mayor’s position.
In his letter of intent to Dela Cruz, San Nicolas said his decision to run is grounded in a deep commitment to responsible leadership, fiscal discipline, economic development, public safety, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of local culture and values.
“As a Republican, I remain guided by my respect for the rule of law and empowering local communities to thrive through opportunity and self-determination,” San Nicolas said. Furthermore, San Nicolas has sought the recognition and support of the Precinct 6 Republican Party, as he moves forward with his candidacy.
In a telephone interview with Variety, Borja confirmed, “I am planning to run for Tinian mayor.”
Dela Cruz said Tinian Municipal Council Chairman Joseph E. Santos has submitted his letter of intent to the party to run for the House. He added that he has yet to receive letters of intent from Sen. Frank Q. Cruz and Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider.
