CNMI joins Guam Civil-Military Coordination Council discussions

(Office of the CNMI Governor) — Gov. David M. Apatang, joined by senior members of his administration, participated in the Guam Civil-Military Coordination Council during meetings held in Guam, as the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands joined Guam leaders and federal partners in discussions focused on shared regional priorities and community interests.

The CMCC convened Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio, along with CNMI officials and Department of Defense representatives, to address common topics affecting the islands and to explore ways to strengthen coordination that supports DoD missions in the Western Pacific while ensuring mutual benefits for local communities.

Governor Apatang was accompanied by senior-level staff, including Edward C. Camacho, special assistant for the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, who participated in discussions centered on infrastructure planning, land use considerations, and socio-economic opportunities connected to DoD activities.

As part of preparations for the upcoming Regional Convening of the Economic Adjustment Committee, Guam and CNMI leaders identified several key areas for continued dialogue that can provide mutual benefits to both communities and DoD missions in the region. These areas include critical infrastructure improvements aligned with the proposed DoD footprint in the Western Pacific, coordinated land use planning, and economic and workforce development opportunities that may be afforded through DoD-related initiatives.

Both Guam and the CNMI emphasized the importance of continued coordination and communication with federal and military partners, including Joint Region Marianas and Joint Task Force–Micronesia, to ensure that planning efforts remain transparent, collaborative, and responsive to community needs.

Participation in these meetings was conducted in the best interest of the Commonwealth, reflecting the administration’s commitment to responsible engagement, regional cooperation, and advocacy that places the well-being of CNMI communities at the forefront.
