EUCON International University meets with Subway leadership

(Special Advertising Feature) — EUCON International University recently held a strategic meeting between its president, Dr. Christian Wei, and Patrick Perez, director of operations, retail food group, Subway field consultant-Guam & Saipan, AAFES / NEXCOM Japan & Marshall Islands, to explore long-term collaboration opportunities connected to EUCON’s ambitious University Town Development Plan.

This meeting marks a meaningful and symbolic milestone in EUCON’s broader effort to ignite sustainable economic recovery and reposition CNMI on the global stage.

From one restaurant to an entire economic ecosystem

During the discussion, EUCON presented its comprehensive university town vision, aiming to build a vibrant, education-centered community where students live, study, and contribute to the local economy for many years.

As part of this initiative, EUCON plans to invite Subway to serve as a key food service partner, with future plans to establish Subway quick-service restaurants on or near campus. These locations would meet the daily needs of a growing student population while anchoring long-term, reliable consumer activity.

This is not simply a campus convenience. It is a strategic model for economic revitalization driven by stable, long-term population growth.

Students are not tourists they are long-term community members

EUCON has already formed partnerships with multiple international universities and continues to expand its global enrollment pipeline. The university projects that within the next one to three years, student enrollment will reach 1,000 to 2,000 students, with continued growth thereafter.

Unlike short-term visitors, university students typically reside in CNMI for four or more consecutive years to complete their degrees. Their sustained presence generates consistent demand for:

•  Food and dining services

•  Daily necessities and household goods

• Transportation, leisure, and community services

Moreover, EUCON offers graduate-level degree programs, and many master’s students relocate to Saipan with their families, further increasing long-term demand for housing, education, healthcare, and local services.

University towns drive jobs, housing, and economic momentum

Global research and international experience consistently show that university towns act as powerful economic catalysts.

An annual increase of 1,000-2,000 students supports:

•  Job creation across food service, retail, and campus operations

• Growth in housing and real estate demand

• Expansion of commercial infrastructure

•  Increased tourism through visiting families and academic events

Rather than a short-term stimulus, a university town creates a self-reinforcing, sustainable economic engine-one capable of generating real recovery in the near term while laying foundations for long-term prosperity.

Subway’s involvement is only the beginning

EUCON emphasizes that inviting Subway to participate in the university town initiative is only the first step.

The university is extending an open invitation to CNMI-based and international partners across multiple sectors, including:

•  Food and beverage providers

•  Grocery and daily necessities suppliers

•  Retail, leisure, and service industries

•  Real estate developers and commercial investors

University town is designed as a collaborative platform-one that belongs to the entire CNMI community.

Repositioning CNMI

At its core, the university town initiative represents a bold redefinition of CNMI’s future.

The vision is to move beyond an economy dependent on short-term tourism and toward a new identity as an international island of higher education, technology, and innovation.

Universities around the world serve as the heart of:

•  Scientific research

•  Technological advancement

•  Innovation and entrepreneurship

Through research centers, interdisciplinary programs, and global partnerships, EUCON aims to transform academic research into commercialized, investable, real-world enterprises that support CNMI’s transition to a knowledge-based, technology-driven economy.

A call to government, community, and industry

EUCON International University respectfully calls upon:

• Government leaders and policymakers

•  Community organizations and civic leaders

• Local and international businesses

•  Investors and industry partners

to support and participate in the university town initiative.

This is more than a university expansion. It is an investment in the next generation. It is a pathway to economic transformation. It is a shared opportunity to shape CNMI’s future.

From one Subway restaurant to one university town, to a new era of education, innovation, and sustainable growth — the future of CNMI is being built today.
