Rota hosts CNMI JROTC Archery Competition

ON Monday, March 10, 2025, Tinian High School competed in the CNMI JROTC Archery Competition, hosted by Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School. This event marks the beginning of a multi-day competition where four JROTC programs across the Commonwealth will showcase their precision and accuracy in archery.

The competition is overseen by 1SG Jeffery Ogo of Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all participants. Following Tinian High School’s performance Monday, Saipan Southern High School will compete on March 14, Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School on March 15, and Marianas High School on March 16.

All JROTC instructors leading their respective schools are certified under the National Archery in the Schools Program or NASP. The competition follows all NASP rules and safety regulations to ensure cadets compete under standardized guidelines emphasizing skill, discipline, and safety.

“You’re the first school to shoot, and I think the biggest thing that I see we need to work on is the basics, but overall I think all of you did very well,” said 1SG Jeffery Ogo when asked about the competition.

Our competing cadets from Tinian High School shared their thoughts on the competition, highlighting their preparation and excitement.

“The archery competition was undoubtedly one of the most exhilarating moments of my day. Despite having only a week of practice, Tinian’s archery team demonstrated remarkable perseverance, pushing through the scorching heat, strong winds, and a demanding schedule to compete. Personally, I never imagined that I would even qualify for the team. Even now, I still find myself wondering how I managed to earn a spot among such skilled archers,” said C/CPT Isa Dosalua.

“I’ve learned that archery isn’t just about hitting the target, to me, it’s about controlling your focus, staying patient, and pushing yourself to do better. Every time I shoot an arrow, I believe it shows discipline, and I think I’m proof that success comes from skill and control, not just strength,” said C/SGT Ying Zhang.

With anticipation running high, the CNMI JROTC Archery Competition promises to be a showcase of discipline, precision, and camaraderie among the islands’ JROTC programs. As the competition unfolds, archers and spectators alike eagerly await to see which school will emerge victorious.

We wish the best to all those competing and hope that everyone has fun and that they enjoy themselves. Good luck!
