Players of Kagman High School and Marianas High School chase after the ball during a match in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League SY24-25 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
WITH the playoffs drawing near, Marianas High School’s varsity team is aiming to secure the No. 2 spot after clinching its third win by defeating Kagman High School V, 6-3, in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League SY24-25 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Tuesday.
MHS managed to set the tone early in the opening half by deploying a well-rounded roster to control both ends of the court.
Offensively, MHS applied constant pressure on the weakside and, after 12 minutes of back-and-forth action, eventually wore down KHS with Rizza Relucio delivering the first goal.
Defensively, MHS was nearly impenetrable, recording several interceptions and turning each stop into a transition play, with Sheira Dela Rosa and Vianca Mangulabnan scoring a goal each in the 16th and 29th minutes to extend the lead to 3-0.
MHS’ Fiona Regan squeezed in another goal in the 32nd minute to further stretch the gap. But KHS’ Pia Ngewakl managed to break her team’s silence by scoring a goal to cut MHS’ lead, 4-1.
In the second half, KHS kept its momentum going, with Kysha Kileleman and Ngewakl notching goals in the 47th and 60th minutes. However, they were unable to score again for the remainder of the game.
MHS, for its part, seized the opportunity to boost its morale, thanks to a goal by Relucio in the 68th minute. Teammate Regan delivered the dagger two minutes later, sealing MHS’s 6-3 victory over KHS.
SIS still undefeated
Joining the winner’s circle was the undefeated Saipan International School, which earned its fifth win by trouncing Kagman High School JV, 11-0. SIS’s Kaithlyn Chavez headlined the highlight reel with six goals, five of them scored consecutively
