Public schools remain closed until all-clear

(PSS) — The Public School System will keep all schools, offices and programs closed until it is safe for students and staff to return and all facilities have been inspected, as the islands prepare for Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

In an official release, the PSS, through the Office of Commissioner of Education Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho, said the decision centers on protecting student and staff safety as conditions continue to worsen.

The closure follows the declaration of Typhoon Condition I by Gov. David M. Apatang for Saipan, Tinian and Rota as of 2 p.m., Monday, April 13.

PSS said campuses will remain closed until the all-clear is issued and all buildings are evaluated and confirmed safe, making clear that reopening will depend on post-storm safety assessments, not just improved weather conditions.

PSS urged students, families and employees to prioritize safety and complete preparations while conditions still allow.

PSS said it will continue to monitor developments and issue updates as needed, with official information on weather conditions and shelter locations available through the Office of the Governor and the CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

PSS also advised the public to follow its official channels for timely updates as the storm approaches.
