FUEL prices on Saipan and Tinian went down by 10 cents on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

On Saipan, Mobil Oil adjusted its fuel prices on Thursday, and Shell followed suit the next day.

It’s the first fuel price rollback on Saipan this year.

The price of regular gasoline dropped to $5.269 per gallon, down from $5.369. Mobil’s premium gasoline price fell to $5.719 per gallon from $5.819, while the price of diesel decreased to $5.389 per gallon, down from $5.489.

On Friday, Tinian Fuel Services reduced its gasoline price to $7.20 a gallon from $7.30 a gallon, and the diesel price to $7.479 a gallon from $7.579 a gallon.

On Rota, Calvo Enterprises had yet to change its fuel prices. Its regular gasoline price as of 10:45 a.m. Monday, was $6.74 a gallon, while the diesel price was $10.12 a gallon.

Conrad Castro, the Department of Public Safety’s Occupant Protection and Child Restraint Program Manager, said it’s good to learn that fuel prices have gone down because every payday, he has to spend about $120 on gas for his vehicle. But that’s just for his commute from home to work on weekdays. He also runs personal errands and drives on weekends.

“So the drop in fuel prices is really good. I hope the prices keep dropping,” Castro said.

Demand weakness

Reuters reported that oil prices fell to two-month lows on Wednesday as a surprise build in U.S. fuel stockpiles signaled demand weakness and a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine continued to weigh on prices.

Brent crude settled down 49 cents, or 0.67%, at $72.53 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures fell by 31 cents, or 0.45%, to $68.62, Reuters said.

It added that both benchmarks settled at their lowest since December 10.
