TWO U.S. Forest Service crews from Northern California are assisting the Saipan Mayor’s Office with debris removal and road clearing operations across the island after arriving between April 20 and 24 under a federal activation following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
Their deployment is part of a broader federal surge into the CNMI following the storm. The crews are among teams activated through national resource orders to reinforce local recovery efforts and reopen critical infrastructure corridors.
The crews — one from the Modoc National Forest and another from the Mendocino National Forest — were mobilized by the U.S. Forest Service under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Their assignment includes chainsaw operations, clearing blocked roadways, and helping restore access to water and utility sites.
