HSI launches worksite enforcement to target illegal aliens

THE investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, is conducting worksite enforcement to identify illegal aliens in the CNMI.

John Duenas, assistant special agent-in-charge of HSI for Guam, the CNMI, and Micronesia, told Variety on Thursday that, along with its partners — the Federal Bureau of Investigations, CNMI Customs, and the CNMI Department of Public Safety — HSI is conducting worksite enforcement.

“The worksite enforcement is being conducted to identify illegal aliens not authorized to work in the United States and to also identify employers who knowingly employ illegal aliens,” Duenas said.

“Due to officer safety and ongoing investigations, I am not able to identify the businesses that have been subjected to a worksite enforcement inspection,” he added.

From other sources, Variety learned that HSI is visiting construction sites, hospitality establishments, related services and other businesses. Among the business establishments visited by HSI so far are Atkins Kroll Saipan, and Plumeria Steakhouse.

The increased HSI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the CNMI follow President Donald Trump’s executive orders on ending birthright citizenship and other immigration issues.
