THE NMI Women’s National Soccer Team officially opened its campaign in the Women’s EAFF E-1 Football Championship Preliminary Competition 2026 on Friday, taking on Chinese Taipei on Guam. Despite a 5–0 loss, the NMI side displayed resilience and determination throughout the contest.
The final scoreline told only part of the story. From the opening whistle to the final seconds, the NMI women competed with pride, delivering strong tackles, quick runs, and composed passing sequences that reflected the team’s preparation and commitment.
Facing one of the tournament’s strongest sides, the NMI defense was tested throughout the match. The backline worked tirelessly under sustained pressure, while the squad continued to battle and look for opportunities despite the deficit. The effort and discipline shown by the players highlighted their determination against a formidable opponent.
With its opening match now complete, the NMI team said it will use the experience as a valuable learning opportunity as it prepares for the remainder of the tournament.
The coaching staff and players remain focused on recovery, continued improvement, and building momentum heading into their upcoming fixtures, the NMI team stated.
