THE local Republican Party is passing on to CNMI residents a $5,000 donation from an off-island donor to support Super Typhoon Sinlaku relief efforts.
Party Treasurer Melvin L.O. Faisao told Variety on Tuesday that the donation was transmitted to the party and, upon his recommendation, the party’s central executive committee adopted a resolution authorizing the purchase of $5,000 worth of IP&E gas vouchers in $25 denominations.
The GOP board, he added, directed that the vouchers be provided to a registered charitable nonprofit organization to assist with ongoing recovery efforts.
“My motion or recommendation was made to ensure transparency, proper documentation, accountability, and to avoid any appearance of commingling of funds. The transaction was formally authorized by the executive board and recorded accordingly,” Faisao said.
NMI GOP President Patrick Cepeda said the party has turned over the donation to the Lady Dianne Foundation, which will distribute the vouchers to those most in need, particularly residents who remain without power in the aftermath of the typhoon.
“The donation is intended to provide some relief to families and individuals still struggling with the impacts of Sinlaku,” Cepeda said.
This is the second time the NMI Republican Party has redirected a donor contribution toward community assistance efforts, underscoring its commitment to supporting residents during times of need, Cepeda added.
