Typhoon Condition I for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota

Governor David M. Apatang, in consultation with the National Weather Service Guam and CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, will declare Typhoon Condition I for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, and Tropical Storm Condition I for Alamagan at 5:00 p.m. today (Sunday, July 5). Typhoon Condition I means typhoon-force winds (74+ mph) are expected within 12 hours. Tropical Storm Condition I means damaging winds (39+ mph) are expected within 12 hours.

Residents must remain in safe shelter through sunrise Tuesday as Super Typhoon Bavi approaches.

Residents in vulnerable housing, low-lying areas, or needing medical or shelter assistance should relocate now:

* Saipan: Kagman Community Center

* Tinian: Tinian Middle & High School

* Rota: Aging Office and Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School

Warnings in effect:

* Typhoon Warning: Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan

* Tropical Storm Warning: Alamagan

* Tropical Storm Watch: Pagan, Agrihan

* Coastal Flood & High Surf Warnings: Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan

* Flood Watch: All islands

Super Typhoon Bavi remains a Category 4 storm (155 mph) and may strengthen further. Hazardous conditions begin later today, with peak impacts early Monday.

Expect life-threatening surf, rip currents, and coastal flooding up to 6–9 feet on Rota and 3–6 feet on Tinian and Saipan, with higher wave run-up possible.
