THE Blue Jays secured the no. 2 spot in the playoffs of the 2024 SBL Masters League on Wednesday after acquiring their sixth win by beating the Brewers, 17-8, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
The Brewers started brewing early in the game with Byron Kaipat and Frank Roberts bringing in two runs, and earning an RBI single and RBI triple along the way. On the defensive end, their team silenced the Blue Jays with three consecutive outs to lead 2-0 after one inning.
The Brewers continued to flourish in the top of the second inning, adding four more runs that were highlighted by Hector Efraim’s two-RBI single to extend the deficit.
But their reign was cut short as the Blue Jays unleashed an eight-run rally led by Ben Pangelinan and Dominic Hideo with two-RBI singles each to seize the lead, 8-6.
The Brewers equalized with two runs scored in the top of the third inning, but the Blue Jays scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to retain the lead, 10-8.
The Brewers were silenced in the next four innings while the Blue Jays capitalized on unforced errors and stolen bases to add three runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth, securing the victory and a spot in the playoffs.
The playoff round will begin next week.
