Faha Digital Media calls for short film proposals, deadline approaching

FAHA Digital Media program officer Daisy Demapan reminds the public that the deadline for submitting short film proposals is 5 p.m. on Jan. 31.

As earlier reported, Faha Digital Media is soliciting proposals from CNMI-based or resident storytellers to conceptualize, develop, create, produce, and film a three-part film series (each film lasting three to five minutes) or a single short film (up to 15 minutes) that showcases the unique life, culture, history, language, and/or nature of the Northern Marianas.

Selected filmmakers can receive up to $10,000 to create works of fiction or nonfiction stories that demonstrate the “norms and values of today and the past” while ensuring “high quality, creative, and artistic storytelling.”

Faha Digital Media is seeking projects that deal with cultural heritage, nature and the environment, community and identity, history, fictional tales, art and creativity, folklore and mythology.

Grantees are expected to develop a concept and script. They must “ensure authenticity by consulting cultural practitioners and experts.” Grantees must shoot the film in 1080p or higher resolution, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, at 30fps or higher.

Key deliverables include a detailed storyboard, production plan, budget breakdown, financial and deliverables report, edited film, final cut, high-resolution digital copy of the film, and a project report.

Proposals will be evaluated based on creativity and originality, relevance and authenticity to Marianas culture, history, language, nature, and life, feasibility and clarity of the proposed budget and timeline, quality of previous work, and alignment with Faha Digital Media’s mission.

Supporting documents for submissions must include a cover letter, the concept proposal, a copy of a CNMI business license, portfolio of work, budget proposal, timeline, and references.
