Man arrested for domestic violence

RICKY Michael Jones was arrested for assaulting and burning his ex-girlfriend’s left thigh with a lighted cigarette.

Jones, 39, was charged with assault and battery, strangulation, disturbing the peace, and domestic violence.

He appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho for a bail hearing on Monday morning in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Jones was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen, while Assistant Attorney General David Krach appeared for the government.

Judge Camacho maintained the $10,000 cash bail and remanded the defendant to the custody of Corrections. Jones was also ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. and for an arraignment on Jan. 13 at 9 a.m.

The complaint

According to the complaint against Jones, police responded to an incident on Dec. 24 at about 4:12 p.m. on Capital Hill. A responding police detective met a woman who was observed with red markings on her neck and around her mouth, as well as burn marks on her left thighs.

The victim identified Jones, her ex-boyfriend, as responsible for her injuries.

She said she told Jones to leave her apartment when he came that day, but Jones insisted on staying so he could “meet the guys who were visiting her.”

She knew Jones would not leave, so she told him they could go outside and talk.

The victim said she talked to Jones about his leaving late at night and coming home early in the morning. She said Jones became upset and slapped her right cheek.

She said she told Jones to leave, but he then burned her left thigh with a lighted cigarette. She said she tried to get into the apartment and close the door, but Jones forced his way inside by pushing the door open with both hands.

She said she told him to leave three times. After she said something to Jones that made him mad, he pushed her to the mattress, which was six feet away from the door.

She said Jones put both of his hands on her face while she was lying on the bed face up. She said one of his hands covered her nose, while the other hand covered her mouth. He then applied his body weight to her for about two minutes, she said.

The victim said she was unable to breathe and kept looking at Jones, hoping he could see that she couldn’t breathe.

She said Jones kept shouting profanity. Once she knew he wouldn’t let go, she punched him with her left hand and scratched him with her right hand continuously. She said she did not remember when Jones got off her because she was about to pass out.

When she received a phone call from her minor son, telling her that he was on his way home and to unlock the door, Jones told her to delete all the photos and messages on the phone, and to “not call the cops,” adding that he would leave her alone.

She said she did what he asked, and when her son came home, Jones walked out the back door.

She told police that there had been five incidents in the past when he tried to strangle her, but she does not remember the dates.

Jones’ previous cases involved domestic violence and meth possession.
