Peter Tenorio tops McDonald’s golf classic

PETER “Dung” Tenorio shot two birdies on the back nine of LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course en route to topping the 3rd Biennial McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan Golf Classic on Saturday.

Teeing off at the par-3 Hole No. 15, Tenorio shot a par to lead the second half of the championship flight with a 2-under-par 34.

Firing no birdies on the front nine but sinking six par putts, Tenorio shot a 3-over-par 39 in the first half.

Joseph Sasamoto also shot 39 on the front nine, but had three birdies in the next half to finish 2-over par 74 to lead the Senior Flight. Pengcheng Wu also scored 39 on the front nine, finishing with an 82 to top the A Flight. Meanwhile, Frank Sablan, who also shot 39 on the front nine, carded a par-36 on the back nine for a 75 to lead the B Flight.

Former Sen. Pete P. Reyes birdied Hole No. 2 and made four par shots, finishing with an 88 to top the C Flight. For her part, Sarah Lim scored 40 on the front nine and 42 on the back, leading the Ladies Flight with an 82.

None of the players this year managed to score in the hole-in-one spots, where prizes included a brand-new Mazda CX-5 from Triple J, a brand-new Lexus NX250 from Atkins Kroll Saipan, $3,000 cash from Pacifica Insurance, and a United Airlines round-trip ticket to Japan.

McDonald’s Guam and Saipan President Jose C. Ayuyu and owner operator Marcia “Ruri” Ayuyu thanked all those who participated in another successful fundraising golf event. They also thanked all the sponsors, supporters and the volunteers for their continued support.

The proceeds of the event will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Karidat on Saipan, and the United Service Organizations on Guam, which aims to “strengthen the well-being of the people serving in America’s military and their families.”
