NMI American Red Cross volunteer Bobbie Solberg steps up in response to Hurricane Helene

(ARC-NMI) — The American Red Cross proudly recognizes volunteer Balbina “Bobbie” Solberg for her dedication and service in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of the eastern United States. Recently retired, Bobbie sought a meaningful way to contribute to her community, leading her to join the Red Cross as a volunteer in June 2024.

“I didn’t want to stay idle after retirement,” said Bobbie. “I wanted to make a difference and help those in need.”

With her enthusiasm and commitment, Bobbie completed the necessary training to equip her with the skills required for deployment. Her hard work soon bore fruit when she was called to assist in Georgia, where she began her journey as a shelter worker. Bobbie’s role was critical in providing support and comfort to those affected by the hurricane.

In addition to her work in Georgia, Bobbie was also tasked with conducting damage assessments in parts of North Carolina. Her ability to adapt and take on new responsibilities showcases the vital role volunteers play in disaster response efforts.

“The selflessness and courage displayed by volunteers like Bobbie are  what  make  the  American  Red Cross effective in its mission to help communities during times of crisis,” said J.D. Tenorio, disaster program manager of the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter. “We are incredibly grateful for her service.”

Bobbie Solberg’s story is a testament to the spirit of community and volunteerism that defines the American Red Cross. For more information on how to get involved, visit www.redcross.org/.
