AN intoxicated man, Alastair Tmachul Augustino, stole an unattended vehicle parked outside a Laundromat because he was tired of walking, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, in a statement, said that on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at 10:28 p.m., a theft of vehicle incident was reported at the Ming Yang Store in San Vicente.
“Officers learned from the victim that she had [pulled into] the parking lot of the Ming Yang Store and proceeded to the Fresh Laundromat to check on available washers. As she returned to her car a few seconds later, the car began to back up and took off at a high rate of speed. The stolen vehicle was identified as a black Mazda CX-9,” Manacop said.
“A few minutes later [that] evening, a witness … called the DPS emergency line and reported [seeing] the stolen vehicle in Kagman. Officers later made contact with the person responsible for stealing the Mazda CX-9” — Alastair Tmachul Augustino.
Manacop said Augustino confessed to consuming alcoholic beverages in Chalan Laulau prior to the incident. He said as he was walking by Ming Yang Store, he stole the unattended Mazda CX-9 because he was tired of walking.
“Mr. Augustino was arrested and charged for theft of vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He is being detained at the Department of Corrections. Bail was set at $10,000,” Manacop added.
