TRIPLE R Auto Shop handed 670 Rollers 2 their first loss, 54-63, in the U17 division of the 2nd Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club – Saipan MagaHaga Lady Eagles Group Basketball Tournament at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Sunday.

Triple R controlled the pace of the first half thanks to an early offensive run. Iverson Quizon acted as a sparkplug, scoring his team’s first four points. Christian Lucero also chipped in during the first 20 minutes of the game.

Rollers 2’s James Matsumoto and Slymark Defang tried to match Triple R’s output, but failed to create second chance buckets as they were outrebounded in every attempt. Their team gradually fell behind, 22-27.

In the second half, Rollers 2’s  Marc Tengco and Heman Addy took over the frontline with strong finishes followed by back-to-back triples in hopes to close the distance.

However, Triple R’s Lucero had an answer for every shot made by Rollers 2, making his way inside the paint to led his team with 18 points in the second half to seal the deal, 63-54.

Sophia Althea/Cafe Merake vs Barbie Salon/5P’s Colecciones

Joining the winner’s circle was Sophia Althea/Cafe Merake, which outlasted Barbie Salon/5P’s Colecciones, 69-62.

It was Sophia Althea’s first-half performance that secured the win. The team excelled from beyond the arc, sinking five three-pointers led by Dane Tibayan with two while Rey Castillo, Kendrick Garcia, and Chris Esdrelon delivered one each to give their team the lead, 30-23.

In the second half, Barbie Salon converted several triples. Sophia Althea opted for closer shots to stay afloat with Carl Sanchez and Ibrahim Ibarola connecting four consecutive buckets en route to victory, 69-62.
