A MAN driving a black sedan lost consciousness and crashed into a flame tree along Tun Herman Pan Road in lower Dandan, according to the Department of Public Safety.
At a press conference Thursday afternoon, DPS Commissioner Anthony Macaranas also informed reporters that the driver, 42-year-old Stanford Abraham, later died from medical complications.
“The traffic incident occurred last Sept. 8 at around 5:16 p.m. on Tun Herman Pan Road, near the intersection of Flame Tree Road. Responding officers found the driver’s black sedan crashed into a flame tree, sustaining extensive front-end damage. Abraham was conscious and responsive at the scene but complained of back pain,” Macaranas said.
“The operator at the time was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol and speed were not a factor, but unfortunately because of the medical emergency that [occurred], the vehicle ran off the road and struck a flame tree. The operator was identified as a 42-year-old, last name’s Abraham, first name’s Stanford. He’s a resident of San Vicente,” Macaranas added.
The driver, who was by himself in the car, was immediately rushed to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. for treatment.
Prior to the incident, the vehicle was traveling south on Tun Herman Pan Road when the driver blacked out.
He told police that he suffered from a medical condition that caused him to have seizures and lose consciousness.
On Monday, Sept. 9, DPS learned that Abraham passed away at 10 a.m. due to intra-abdominal bleeding.
“No other factors, such as speed, the consumption of alcohol/drugs, or traffic infraction, were found to have contributed to the crash. An autopsy will not be recommended as investigators do not look to charge any person of a violation,” DPS stated.
The case remains under investigation.
