THE Department of Public Lands has issued a request for proposals to lease the 1.2 million-square-meter public land previously occupied by Rota Resort & Country Club.
The deadline for the submission of proposals is Sept. 10, 2024.
DPL is seeking interested investors a month after the Superior Court denied the request of Rota Resort owner Hee Kyun Cho to stay the enforcement of DPL’s notice of land lease termination.
The property, featuring an 18-hole golf course, has remained idle for many years, with its deteriorating hotel facilities falling victim to vandalism. This had prompted DPL to issue a notice of violation of land lease contract before terminating the lease on March 8, 2023.
Rota Resort & Country Club, which first opened in 1995 was an iconic place to visit, stay, and play golf on Rota, Sen. Paul A. Manglona said on Friday.
Unfortunately, he said, it struggled to keep its doors open and ceased operations in 2020 amid the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Manglona said he was delighted to learn that DPL has issued an RFP to lease and develop “this once thriving resort and country club.”
He said the issuance of the RFP “is one step closer to revitalizing the tourism industry on Rota.”
“We hope to spread the word to investors around the world about the availability of this invaluable property on the pristine and beautiful island of Rota, and look forward to the responses we get to this invitation for proposals,” Manglona said.
He is also looking forward to the reopening of the resort and country club “as it will foster the creation of jobs and fuel the economy not only on Rota, but in the CNMI as a whole.”
