GLENN Sablan Palacios, 54, is accused of illegally possessing firearms, ammunition and controlled substance after a search warrant was executed at his residence in Chalan Kanoa on Aug. 1 by the Department of Public Safety.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Palacios at a bail hearing on Monday.
Palacios appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections and was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
After the hearing, Judge Camacho remanded the defendant to the custody of Corrections and ordered him to return for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 9 at 10 a.m., and for an arraignment on Aug. 19 at 9 a.m.
Palacios was charged with two counts of firearm possession violation, one count of ammunition possession violation, and one count of illegal possession of a controlled substance.
According to the complaint against Palacios, while the police were executing a search warrant at his residence on Aug. 1, a K-9 alerted its handler to a narcotics odor.
The officers searched the bedroom and recovered 47 Ziploc baggies containing crystallized substance residue, and eight pieces of paraphernalia. The residue tested positive for methamphetamine in a field testing.
Police officers also recovered a .22 rifle, a .410-gauge rifle and three pieces of ammunition. Neither of the rifles was registered.
During a pat down, an officer found $215 in Palacios’ pockets. Another officer found $600 on the ground in front of Palacios’ residence.
Police earlier said that they executed the search warrant at the residence as part of an investigation of a burglary and theft incident.
