“This would be my third try to run for Precinct 4 representative, and I am running to give our community options and choice,” Fitial said. Precinct 4 has two House seats.

“I chose to run as an independent because I want the liberty…to give…them a neutral choice. I’m running for our people, and I am seeking their vote of confidence. I hope that they will give me that opportunity to serve our community,” she added.

She is a former Department of Community and Cultural Affairs secretary, Arts Council executive director, and Commonwealth Women’s Association president.

Yvette Sablan, for her part, is an independent candidate for Precinct 1, which has six House seats.

Sablan said she decided at the “very last minute” to run, adding that this is her first time to seek public office.

“I’ve been getting quite a few calls, folks in the community asking me to consider running. I worked for the executive branch, then the judiciary. I think it’s a good time to continue to serve the public at a greater capacity,” she said.

“My heart is really with the underserved population,” she added.

Rosa Taman Rios, Antonio Suda Kapileo and Melvin Odoshi Faisao are Republican House candidates.

Rios and Kapileo are running in Precinct 4, while Faisao is a candidate in Precinct 5, which has two House seats.
