THE Padres secured a sport in the playoffs of the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League after collecting their seventh win of the season by trouncing the Braves, 14-3, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios baseball field on Tuesday.
The game started with both teams displaying high energy.
The Padres’ Ben Jones went 1 for 1 at bat with a single and then made his way to third base off a sacrifice fly by Tony Salas for a chance to score a run. But they were denied the scoring opportunity as the Braves’ pitcher, Aaron Camacho, struck out the next two batters.
The Braves held onto the momentum going into the bottom half as their first three batters quickly filled the bases. The next batter, Andrew Camacho, was picked off at first base, but he was able to bring in two runs for a two-RBI single while VJ Igitol squeezed in another run to earn an RBI and give his team a 3-0 lead before the Padres could stop the bleeding.
Despite the Braves establishing early control, the Padres responded with highlights of their own in the second inning.
The Braves tried to regain the upper hand throughout the remainder of the game and created a handful of scoring opportunities. However, the Padres’ defense left the runners stranded on base.
The Padres’ lead gradually grew further out of reach with a series of successive hits. Two runs were scored off errors in the top of the fourth inning while one more came in the fifth.
In the sixth and seventh innings, the Padres’ ensured their victory. Frankie Lifoifoi led the sixth inning with a two-RBI single while Flores, Jones and Suel took the spotlight in the seventh with an RBI each to triumph, 14-3.
The Padres now hold a win-loss record of 7-2 while the Braves is clinging to life with a 5-4 record.
