Commonwealth Public Utilities Commissioner Dr. John “Jack” Angello poses for a photo with House members shortly after they confirmed his re-appointment.
THE House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously adopted Joint Standing Committee Report 23-1, confirming the reappointment of Dr. John A. “Jack” Angello to the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission.
All the 17 House members present voted to confirm him. House Floor Leader Edwin Propst, Rep. Blas Jonathan Attao and Rep. Denita Yangetmai were excused.
A retired educator, Angello will represent Saipan on the commission. His reappointment also requires the Senate’s approval.
Following the roll call vote on Tuesday, the House members congratulated Angello and wished him the best of luck.
Prior to his confirmation, Office of the Governor’s Special Projects Coordinator John Paul Reyes testified on behalf of Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang. He said the Palacios-Apatang administration is grateful to the House, and its Committees on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications, and the Judiciary and Governmental Operations for the joint committee report recommending the confirmation of Angello’s reappointment.
In an interview, Angello said CPUC will address pressing issues facing the utilities and other issues as soon as they have a quorum.
Right now, Angello and James Sirok, a former legal counsel of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., are the only members of CPUC, which has five seats.
