THE 2024 Joten-Kiyu Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is taking children “around the world.”

Sponsored by the Public School System, the Joeten-Daidai Foundation and private businesses such as Bridge Capital, Coca-Cola and Chongs Corp., the summer program allows the children to “travel around the world through reading,” JKPL Executive Director Erlinda Naputi said.

The theme this year is, “Adventures Begin At Your Library.”

On Thursday, the children “visited” China.

Naputi said the summer program started on June 11 and will continue until the second week of August. It is for children from six to 12 years old.

She said a total of 100 children are participating this year: 50 in the morning session and 50 in the afternoon. The program features a mixture of activities that include field trips.

On June 14, they went to the Commonwealth Ports Authority, and on Friday they visited American Memorial Park. This week, the children will be at the United States Courthouse.

Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero donated bottled water for the participating children.

The activities at JKPL will end on June 28, Naputi said. After that, they will hold the program at the Tanapag Youth Center from July 10 to 12; the Carolinian Utt Pavilion in Garapan from July 17 to 19; the Kagman Community Center from July 24 to 26; and the Fernando M. Benavente Memorial Library in San Antonio from July 30 to Aug. 1.

This will be followed by an Internet Camp at JKPL, for children nine to 12 years old.

Naputi said there will be nine seats available for children per session. The first session will be from July 9 to 11 and the second will be from July 16 to 18. These sessions will focus on information technology, including e-books and Malware.
