The Cardinals’ KJ Villagomez pitches against the Braves during a game in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
THE Bears notched their second win of the season by beating the Royals, 9-5, in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.
The Bears started slow, scoring only one run courtesy of Henry Lizama, who capitalized off a wild pitch to reach home safely.
For their part, the Royals’ first two at bat, J-Boy Mendiola and Alden Ngeskebei, rounded the bases with the help of Thomas Reyes, who earned a two-RBI single while Marvin Cabrera added another off an infield error to give his team the lead after one complete inning, 3-1.
However, in the top of the second inning, the Bears were handed a handful of scoring opportunities as the Royals’ errors allowed their opponents to advance with each pitch. The Bears’ Tom Agulto stole his way home, and this was followed by a sacrifice play by Henry Lizama Jr. for an RBI while JT Tyquenco earned a two-RBI single as the Bears regained the lead, 5-3.
After the Royals were silenced in the bottom half, the Bears notched a single run via Ben Flores’ sacrifice fly. However, in the bottom of the third, the Royals managed to cut down the deficit, 5-6, with two runs led by Nate Sablan’s RBI.
Although the Bears continued to struggle on the defensive end by committing several errors, the Royals failed to cook up a rally and gradually lost all hope as they were silenced once again — this time for the remainder of the game.
The Bears were able to keep the fuel burning long enough to squeeze in two runs in the top of the sixth and one more in the top of the seventh and final inning to secure the win, 9-5.
On Monday, the Cardinals trounced the Blue Jays, 11-2.
