TINIAN Mayor Edwin P. Aldan is inviting members of the 23rd Legislature to the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Saipan and Tinian on July 26, 2024 on Tinian.

The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the recently cleared American Cemetery in the northern part of Tinian leased to the U.S. military.

In his invitation letter to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, the Tinian mayor said the historic Battle of Saipan and Tinian “marked the pivotal moment in our history, altering the course of events.”

He said the gathering at the historic site “allows us to reflect on the past, pay respect to those who laid down their lives for our freedom, and recommit to preserving their legacy for future generations.”

“We understand that your schedule may be demanding, but we hope that you will join us at this solemn event to honor and remember the heroes of World War II and pay tribute to all the indigenous lives lost during the battle,” Aldan said.
