GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios swore in businesswoman Eleanor Alinas as the newest member of the Commonwealth Zoning Board on Friday afternoon after her nomination was unanimously confirmed by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation.
All 19 Saipan lawmakers present voted yes to pass the delegation’s Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee report recommending Alinas’ confirmation.
Reps. Ralph Yumul and Denita Yangetmai were excused.
Prior to the vote, Special Assistant for Administration Oscar M. Babauta expressed his deepest gratitude to the Saipan delegation on behalf of the governor and lieutenant governor. He also extended his sincere appreciation to the JGO chair, Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, for conducting a public hearing on Alinas’ nomination.
The seven-seat Zoning Board now has six members.
In February, the governor swore in Northern Marianas College Dean of Student Support Services Charlotte P.R. Cepeda and Triple J Motors New Car Sales Manager Stephen P. Sablan as members, joining Zoning Board Chairman Henry S. Hofschneider, Vice Chairman Michael Evangelista and member Pete Itibus.
The president of Kalayaan Inc. catering services, Alinas was supported by Office of the Governor protocol officer Ignacia Evangelista, Customs and Biosecurity Director Jose C. Mafnas, former Rep. Claudio Norita and House Floor Leader Edwin Propst.
