THE Bandits remain unscathed in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League as they earned their fourth straight win by trouncing the Blue Sharks, 16-6, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.
The top of the first inning was filled with hits and stolen opportunities which the Bandits utilized to gain the early lead. Virgi Secharmidal hit a single and quickly made his way to third as the Blue Sharks’ pitcher struggled to find the strike zone, allowing the next two batters to walk. Secharmidal then made his way home safely via fielder’s choice as Harry Nakamura earned an RBI to open up the scoreboard. The Bandits squeezed in three more runs for a 4-0 lead before the Blue Sharks could stop the bleeding.
The Blue Sharks sought redemption during their turn at bat with Otis Grand causing chaos infield as he stole his way to third base and was later brought in by Austin Masga for an RBI single. However, that was the end of their offensive highlight as the Bandits snagged the three outs needed with two runners left on base.
In the top of the second, the Blue Sharks continued to struggle on the defensive end, walking several batters as the Bandits’ Franco Nakamura and Niko Martin earned an RBI each, adding five runs.
The lead grew further as the Bandits added six more runs although the Blue Sharks managed to sneak in a single run after three complete innings to trail 2-15.
To avoid the 10-run mercy rule, the Blue Sharks stepped up their game and delivered as they allowed only one run to slip by in the next two innings.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, their first four runners rounded the bases without a hitch. However, all hopes were erased as the Bandits collected the three outs needed to end the game with only five innings played, 16-6.
