A HUGE fire damaged ELS Auto Shop and two houses on Texas Road, Susupe Saturday evening.
The auto shop and the houses were about 200 meters away from the Susupe Fire Station and the CNMI Department of Corrections.
According to some residents in the area, the fire broke out at around 10 p.m. Saturday and was extinguished at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
There were some explosions, but no one was injured, the residents told Variety.
“Several vehicles at the auto shop caught fire, but the rooms where we were staying were farther back from the auto shop and were spared,” a resident told Variety.
“Most of us here were either in bed or preparing to go to bed when the fire broke out,” another resident said.
A bystander, who requested anonymity, expressed disappointment over the fire department’s response.
“It’s ridiculous. You can shout from the [auto] shop and you’ll be heard at the [fire] station, but there were only two [firefighters] on duty, and they had to get [fire] trucks from Capital Hill and Garapan because there was no water at the main station in Susupe,” the bystander told Variety.
Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services public information officer Robert Mojica said the report regarding the incident will be available today, Monday.
