
GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios will meet his Tokyo counterpart, Yuriko Koike, today, Thursday.
At the invitation of Koike, Palacios is in Japan from Tuesday to Thursday this week, according to the Office of the Governor.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting an international conference to bring together leaders of major cities from around the globe. They will discuss initiatives that aim to solve urban challenges, the governor’s office said.
The conference will be held during the Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo 2024 Summit.
This is the first time that the CNMI was invited to the event, the governor’s office said.
In his meeting with Koike, Palacios will discuss sustainability issues, invite more investments from Japan, and identify other opportunities for partnership between Tokyo and CNMI.
The governor’s travel is funded by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
While in Japan, the governor will also host the Marianas Visitors Authority-led Marianas Seminar, which brings together representatives from tour agencies, airlines and other industry partners to promote the CNMI as a destination.
He has also met with various travel industry media outlets, the governor’s office said.
Traveling with the governor is MVA Managing Director Christopher Concepcion.
