Hyatt Regency Saipan issues official statement

“HYATT Regency Saipan is closing its doors after 43 years.

“On behalf of Saipan Portopia Corporation, the ownership of Hyatt Regency Saipan, it is with profound sadness that we announce the closure of the hotel. Hyatt Regency Saipan has been a beloved institution and an integral part of the island’s community for decades.

“From July 1, 2024, Hyatt Regency Saipan will no longer operate as a hotel nor be affiliated with Hyatt. The top priorities are to care for the hotel’s associates and guests through the upcoming changes and Hyatt is working closely with Saipan Portopia to ensure a smooth transition. Since the onset of the global pandemic in 2020, both Saipan Portopia and Hyatt have been unwavering in their commitment to support the resort and local community as well as to prioritize the welfare of all employees.

“Due to the global shifts and continued challenges impacting Saipan and its tourism sector, it is after much careful consideration that Saipan Portopia has decided to close the hotel permanently, with the last day of operations being June 30, 2024. ‘Despite our best efforts and after months of careful consideration and exploring many avenues, the harsh realities of the current landscape have forced us to make the difficult decision to close this special place. As we navigate this challenging transition, our thoughts are with all those affected by this and we are committed to ensure that they are supported,’ said Hitoshi Nakauchi, president of Saipan Portopia.

“ ‘We extend our deepest gratitude to our employees, guests, partners and the broader Saipan society who have been a part of our journey over the last four decades,’ said Simon Graf, general manager of Hyatt Regency Saipan.

“ ‘The support and patronage that we have received from this special community have been the bedrock of our success. We are immensely grateful to have had the privilege serving you and being a part of your everyday lives, to be the place where many have created memories together and celebrated life’s milestones.’

“Hyatt Regency Saipan joined Hyatt’s global portfolio in 1980 and evolved into a legacy address over the past 43 years. Loyal guests and patrons kept visiting the resort over the years and the hotel has also been an integral part of the local community for generations.

“Together with Saipan Portopia, Hyatt is actively supporting all associates to transfer to other Hyatt hotels after all will be permanently let go. Both companies are working closely together to handle all relevant administrative obligations in a transparent and empathetic way to support all associates, guests, members, business partners and the local community.
